Vancouver names deputy chief Robert Weeks as its next fire chief

A longtime member of the Vancouver fire department is set to lead it. Robert Weeks, a deputy fire chief, has been named the city's next fire chief, the Vancouver Sun reported.

The appointment followed a countrywide search for the job. Weeks is described as a longtime member of the department, so the person chosen at the end of that search already serves in its senior ranks.

For Vancouver residents, the appointment settles who will head the department that answers the city's emergency calls.
